Travel Skincare Essentials
For Every Climate
As Australians ramp up for the summer holiday season, travel plans stretch far and wide.
For some, it’s sand and surf- Bali, Fiji, or iconic coastal escapes from Broome in Western Australia to the Great Barrier Reef or Hamilton Island in Far North Queensland.
For others, it’s a much longer journey - to the snow-covered ski fields of Europe, where skin faces freezing temperatures, harsh winds and intense sun glare.
Different destinations. Completely different climates.
Yet the same question always arises:
What does skin really need when we travel?
What Skin Needs for Travelling
From decades of working with sensitive and stressed skin, I always return to three essentials:
- Protection – from wind, sun, dry air and pollution
- Regeneration – to support repair and barrier function
- Relaxation – because travel stress shows up on the skin
Rather than relying on one “miracle” product, I believe in a a few carefully chosen travel skincare essentials - a small collection of multi-tasking must-haves that adapt to wherever you land.
The Calm Anchor: Daily Soother Booster
Originally developed to help calm my daughter’s eczema, Daily Soother Booster has become one of the most relied-upon products in the MV range.
This herbaceous, restorative oil works like a protective glove for the skin - supporting barrier function during long-haul flights and defending against environmental extremes once you arrive.
If you travel often, this is the oil that quietly does everything:
- Calms redness and irritation
- Helps prevent dehydration
- Supports skin recovery from heat, cold and wind
It’s little wonder Jasmine Hemsley once listed Daily Soother as one of her favourite travel essentials in an interview with Get the Gloss - especially for trips where space is limited and products must work harder.
The Universal Fix: multiBALM
If there’s one product I insist everyone packs, it’s MultiBALM.
This is your emergency skin responder - perfect for:
- Dry or cracked lips
- Cuticles stressed by travel
- Windburned cheeks or noses
- Dry hands, brows or skin patches
One balm. Endless uses.
No explanation required at airport security.
The Skin Equaliser: Pure Jojoba
When climates change quickly, skin often becomes confused - producing too much oil, not enough oil, or reacting unpredictably.
Pure Jojoba helps restore balance.
Because its molecular structure closely mirrors our skin’s natural sebum, it supports hydration without clogging or overwhelming, making it ideal for:
- Humid tropical destinations
- Dry alpine or winter climates
- Sensitive or reactive skin
Use it alone, layer it over mist, or blend a drop into your moisturiser for added nourishment.
Hero Ingredients That Support Stressed Skin
At the heart of our travel essentials are botanicals chosen specifically for calm, repair and resilience:
Plant Oils
- Calendula – deeply soothing and protective
- Carrot – rich in beta-carotene, Vitamin E and Vitamin C
Essential Oils
- Chamomile – anti-inflammatory and calming
- Palmarosa – regenerative and restorative
- Lavender – wound-healing and deeply relaxing
- Carrot Seed – supports dryness, irritation and cell renewal
Frequently asked questions
Yes, facial oils are ideal for travel because they support the skin barrier and help prevent moisture loss in dry or extreme environments. They’re especially helpful for long-haul flights, cold or windy destinations, and over-exposed or sun-stressed skin.
Yes. Most oils and balms are carry-on friendly when they comply with airline liquid restrictions (usually 100ml or less). Travel sizes or mini sets are ideal for carry-on trips and for added safety we always recommend packing them in a ziplock bag. We also recommend ensuring tops are cleaned and screwed on tightly to prevent any leaks. If you have a pump bottle, always ensure the pump is in the 'closed' position to avoid any spills.
In warm, humid climates, skin often needs balance rather than heaviness. Lightweight oils such as Pure Jojoba help regulate and support hydration without feeling oily.
Cold temperatures, wind and sun glare can compromise the skin barrier, leading to dryness and redness. Choose barrier-supporting products that calm and protect -richer oils and a balm are especially helpful for alpine or winter travel. A multi-use balm is helpful for targeted dryness or areas affected by wind burn/chafe. Try our multiBALM.
