Simple Practices To Regulate Your Nervous System
In addition to meditation, here are a few other practices than can be used to help regulate the nervous system at any time, even with the kids around:
• Humming. When you hum, it stimulates the vegas nerve which acts to calms the nervous system. Inhale, then gently hum “mmm” on the exhale.
• Physiological sigh. This can reset the nervous system and may also help reset the emotional state. Simply take two quick inhales through the nose, then a single, longer exhalation through the mouth.
• Shake it out with movement. When the body experiences stress, the nervous system fires up and needs to release it. Focus on parts of the body whilst seated or standing, and move the limbs around in any way you feel called to.
Motherhood asks so much of us - physically, emotionally, and energetically. In giving so much, it’s essential you also take time to replenish. This Mother’s Day, let’s honour mums and carers by helping them feel seen, supported, and deeply nurtured, whilst they care for another.
